Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Our in-clinic and mobile physiotherapy is designed to help you understand what’s causing the problem, recover properly and build the strength and confidence to get back to being active again.

Overview

Physiotherapy built around you

Good physiotherapy is about more than treating where it hurts. We look at how you move, what your body is being asked to do and what may be contributing to your injury in the first place.

At Coast & Rivers Rehab, we take the time to understand your individual needs, challenges and goals. Whether it’s in-clinic or mobile physiotherapy, your program is tailored to help improve strength, mobility, balance, confidence and independence. We support you through recovery from illness, injury or surgery, managing a long-term condition, or simply finding it harder to do the things you used to do.

Physiotherapy is available in our clinic at John Flynn Private Hospital or through our mobile service at home and in the community, allowing rehabilitation to take place in the environment that best supports your goals.

Your goals guide your rehabilitation – whether that means walking further, managing at home, returning to work or simply getting back to the activities that are important to you.

TYPES OF INJURIES

Injuries we can help with

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to benefit from physiotherapy. We work with people across the Northern Rivers and Gold Coast who participate in all kinds of sports, exercise and recreational activities.

We can help with:

  • Muscle strains and ligament injuries
  • Tendon injuries and tendinopathy
  • Running-related injuries
  • Shoulder, hip, knee and ankle injuries
  • Stress injuries and overuse conditions
  • Post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation
  • Persistent musculoskeletal pain affecting sport and exercise

We’ll also look beyond the immediate injury to understand the factors that may be contributing to it, helping you recover while reducing the chance of the same problem continuing to interrupt your training or activity.

How we help

What does physiotherapy involve?

Your treatment will depend on your injury, how you move and what you want to get back to. We tailor your physiotherapy to you.

Hands-on physiotherapy

Hands-on treatment may be used where appropriate to help manage pain, improve movement and make it easier to progress with your rehabilitation.

Targeted exercise rehabilitation

Exercises are selected specifically for you, helping rebuild the strength, mobility, control and capacity you need for your sport or activity.

Movement and biomechanics

We can look at how you move during relevant activities to identify movement patterns or physical factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Training and load management

Sometimes it’s not about stopping altogether. We can help you adjust your training load and activity while your body recovers, then gradually build things back up.

Education and injury management

Understanding your injury can make recovery feel much less uncertain. We’ll explain what’s happening, what you can safely do and how to manage your rehabilitation between appointments.

Sport-specific rehabilitation

As you progress, rehabilitation can become more specific to the movements and physical demands of your sport, helping bridge the gap between recovering from an injury and actually feeling ready to return.

rehabilitation process

Getting you back to your sport

Feeling better is one thing. Feeling ready to run, train, compete or exercise again is another.

That’s why the later stages of sports physiotherapy focus on preparing your body for the demands it will face when you return. Depending on your sport and injury, this may involve progressively rebuilding strength, speed, power, endurance, balance or sport-specific movement.

We can also gradually increase your training load and monitor how your body responds along the way. The goal is to help you return with more than just less pain. We want you to feel strong, capable and confident getting back to the activities you enjoy.

Frequently asked questions

What injuries can a physiotherapist help with?

Our Northern Rivers physiotherapy team can help with muscle and ligament injuries, tendon problems, running injuries, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle conditions, overuse and stress injuries, post-operative rehabilitation and persistent musculoskeletal pain affecting sport, exercise, activity and general movement.

How long will it take before I can return to activities?

It depends on the type and severity of your injury, your activity and how your body responds to rehabilitation. Rather than relying on a set timeframe alone, we look at your symptoms, strength, movement and ability to manage the demands of your activity before progressing your return.

Can physiotherapy help prevent the injury from coming back?

While no injury can be guaranteed not to return, physiotherapy can help identify factors that may have contributed to the problem, such as strength, mobility, biomechanics, movement patterns or training load. Your rehabilitation can then address these areas while preparing your body for the demands of your activity.

Do I need to be an athlete to see a sports physiotherapist?

No. Sports physiotherapy is for anyone whose injury or pain is affecting their ability to exercise or stay active. We work with competitive athletes, recreational players, runners, gym-goers and people who simply want to get back to doing the activities they enjoy.
